Soul Survivor

Soul Survivor by Bruce Leininger and Andrea Leininger tells the remarkable story of a young boy, their son James Leininger, who begins recalling vivid and specific memories of a past life as a World War II fighter pilot. His parents, initially skeptical, investigate his claims and uncover striking historical connections that seem to validate his memories. The book follows their journey from doubt to belief, exploring themes of reincarnation, memory, and the possibility that life extends beyond what we can see.

At its core, the book explores reincarnation, the persistence of the soul, and the idea that our lives may be part of a larger continuum. It also touches on the nature of memory, the search for truth, and the tension between skepticism and belief. Underneath it all is a quiet but powerful question: what if our lives are not singular, but part of an ongoing story?

What made this book especially powerful for me was how closely it mirrored someone I love. Terry had always felt an unexplainable discomfort with flying. Not fear, but something deeper. He was also drawn to World War II in a way that felt personal. Reading this book together, we found ourselves pausing often, reflecting on details that felt strangely familiar. At times, when he was too tired, I would read aloud, and those moments became something I’ll always hold onto.

This book didn’t just tell a story; it opened a door. It made me more open to the idea that life may not end here, that we may be here to learn something we carry forward. Terry used to say, “Life is just temporary. We are here to learn our lessons.” This book gave that belief a deeper meaning, and gave us both a sense of hope.

Whether or not you believe in reincarnation, this is a moving and thought-provoking read. I would recommend it to anyone who has ever wondered about what comes after this life, or who is simply open to the possibility that there may be more to our story than we understand.
